Mom and Dad, I love you. Hang in there, I know it's going to be tough for awhile but with God's grace you will come out the other side of this realizing how richly you are blessed.
Love ya lots!!!
Everyone;
I wanted to let you know what we are dealing with. During our son Ricky's wedding reception, my mom's and dad's house burnt. My mom is now in Des Moines with my little sister Cindy. She is going to re-make the Grammie Blankets that were destroyed in the fire that belonged to my 5 and 3 year old nephew and niece. My dad is staying at the Comfort Inn in Ozark and coming to my house during the day. I am off work for this week. They are looking into renting an apartment in Sparta because they want to be able to keep their same phone number.
The two great blessings were, because it happened on Ricky's wedding day, their lives were saved. They would have been asleep in their beds. And because of the wedding all 7 of their children, who live in Baltimore, Iowa, and Oklahoma were here to help salvage wet and chared photographs. This also included 14 grown grandchildren who all pitched in.
Our mother is 72 and our dad is approaching his 77th birthday. Because of all of this we have given care of our Granny over to her other 6 children. Right now, Granny is in Kansas City with her daughter Mary Jo. Her son Bob also lives in Kansas City. On May 4th her daughter Donna is coming from Colorado to stay with Granny in her home in Ozark for a month. Although Granny has lived alone, she is not able to take care of herself and now that my parents are homeless, they nor can we take care of Granny sufficiently.
Please pray for my parents that the Lord will continue showering them with blessings as He has been doing during these recent days. We have experienced this as an enormous relationship and faith builder. We know there is a reason for everything and there have been so many wonderful blessings that I do not even know where to begin listing the blessings.
Mom and dad were way under-insured. My youngest sister's friend David Sinclair has created a website with information since there have been community people asking how they can help. The URL is www.gasshouse.org
We are going to get together on Saturday to see if we can salvage windows and doors for the new house. The Sparta School teachers are bringing dinner to all of us. The students at Sparta Elementary are having a contest to see which class can raise the most money to help Mrs. Johns’ parents. The class who raises the most money will get to watch their teacher kiss a rat. The students will also get to enjoy a popsicle party and extra recess. The Sparta Community is AWESOME!! We love you Sparta Community, Teachers, and Students.
I have never in my life realized to this extent how precious and wonderful siblings are. God sure knew what He was doing when he blessed my folks with seven children. They now have 20 grandchildren and while the house was burning, my mom was surrounded by all of her granddaughters in her van singing praises to God and praying. My mother first asked the girls to pray for certain things she wanted saved and then changed her prayer to asking God to save what He wanted her to have. This was such an awesome witness to these young women. On Sunday, as we were going through the burned out house and we were finding the family heirlooms that had been blackened, and charred, but spared, my little sister Cindy said, "God sure wanted you to have a lot, Mom."
Thank you for your prayers for my family. Granny is having a really hard time with this as this is her little girl who is now homeless. Please pray for her.
Thanks a lot, Julie Johns
Thank you to the men and women of the Sparta, Ozark, Chadwick, and Nixa fire departments for their tireless hard work throughout the night of April 21st. I speak on behalf of all my family when I say that your hard work and dedication is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for all you do. -Angela Gass
To my wonderful, amazing, loving, caring, and irreplaceable family; I want you all to know that through this experience I have learned so much about all of you that I didn't know before and I am so blessed to have been born into the Gass family. I knew that we had an awesome family but until this happened I didn't realize exactly how awesome, and I am completely blown away. Although I am not able to be in Sparta as much as I wish I could because of having class Monday through Thursday and trying to work 35 hours a week, my mom has filled me in on everything that has been going on and there is no other way to explain it other than God. The blessings that have come out of this are amazing. Things that should have burnt up but were found completely untouched can not be explained other than by a mircle. I want you all to know that I love each and everyone of you very much. I am going to miss Grammie and Poppie's house very much but its not the house that makes it a home its the people that live in it. We are so blessed that Grammie and Poppie were not asleep in their house when the fire started. It is also a blessing that we were all able to be there with them during the fire. The house can be rebuilt and the furniture can be replaced but all of you and our memories can not and I want you all to know that you mean the world to me! Love you all!
-Lauren
